  "Em & Selma Go Griffin Hunting,” the fantasy short film that has been amassing awards and buzz since it premiered in Sundance earlier this year, has got the backing of two seasoned genre filmmakers. Under their Spooky Pictures label, Roy Lee (“Weapons,” “Barbarian,” “It”) and Steven Schneider (“The Long Walk,” “Strange Darling,” “Late Night with the Devil”) have come on board the short as executive producers."

Starring Milly Shapiro (Hereditary) and Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead), the story follows a mother-daughter duo on the hunt for mythical creatures. But this hunt – a rite of passage for young Em – proves to be more challenging than the elder Selma would prefer. Thompson, who both wrote and directed, weaves Game Of Thrones-level effects with cathartic pathos in this coming-of-age tale.

  Making of L’Orange’s Blame the Author

  

  Visual-effects artist Isaiah Kang was responsible for compositing these shots, using Adobe's After Effects with Video Copilot's Element 3D plugin. Kang also crafted the exterior shots of the barren planetoid and outer-space sequences seen in the short. These shots were achieved through a combination of practical minia- ture elements and computer-generated set extensions for the star fields, auroras and planets
